Description
Design Concept: The artist will first make an in-depth interpretation of the theme of “The Wukong is a Hero” to determine the overall style, posture and expression of the sculpture. Through sketching or making a simple model, the general image of the Monkey King is outlined, such as the possibility of presenting the Monkey King single-handedly holding a golden baton, head held high, eyes resolute heroic posture, reflecting his self-confidence and fearless spirit.
Making molds: Silicone molds or plaster molds are generally used. First, make an accurate prototype that matches the design. The prototype can be carefully molded with oil clay, resin and other materials to perfect the details. Afterwards, a mold release agent is applied to the surface of the prototype, and then materials such as silicone or plaster are applied layer by layer. After it has cured, the mold is disassembled to obtain a mold that can be used for casting.
Fusion casting: The raw bronze material (usually an alloy of metals such as copper and tin) is heated in a furnace to above the melting point so that it completely melts into a liquid. The molten bronze is then carefully poured into the mold to ensure that the liquid fills every corner of the mold, and when it cools and solidifies, a preliminary sculpture blank is obtained.
Post-processing: The blank is cut, polished, and excess parts such as sprues and risers are removed to make the surface flat and smooth. Through the burin, polishing and other processes, further carving the Monkey King’s facial expression, hair, clothing texture and other details, so that the sculpture more charm. Sometimes also chemical coloring treatment, so that the bronze sculpture presents a unique color and texture, enhance the artistic expression.
