Sitting Panda Sculpture

Description

Design and Modeling: Conceptualize the details of the sitting panda’s posture and expression according to the requirements, and create an accurate model through hand-drawing or 3D modeling software to determine the dimensions and proportions, so as to show the panda’s naive and innocent features, such as the rounded body shape and the distribution of the black and white hairs.
Making the mold: Foam, plaster or silicone are commonly used to make the mold. If foam is used, the 3D model is first carved into a foam prototype with a carving machine at a ratio of 1:1, and then plaster and hemp are applied to the surface to form a solid outer layer and add a fixed skeleton, and then the foam is taken out after drying to obtain a mold; plaster molds are made by pouring adjusted gypsum slurry around the prototype, and then dismantling it after it has solidified; silicone molds are more costly but more effective, and need to be coated with a release agent on the surface of the prototype and then apply silicone material layer by layer, and then dismantle it after curing. Split after solidification .
Fiberglass molding: cut the fiberglass cloth according to the shape of the mold, mix the resin and hardener in proportion and stir well. Apply a layer of resin on the inner surface of the mold, then lay the fiberglass cloth and compact it, let the resin fully saturate the fiberglass cloth, then apply another layer of resin, lay a layer of cloth and repeat the operation until the required thickness is reached. Afterwards, the resin is allowed to cure in a suitable temperature and humidity environment.
Removing the mold and trimming: After the resin has cured, carefully remove the mold and take out the sculpture. At this time, the surface of the sculpture may have burrs, uneven places, use sandpaper, sanding machine and other tools to sand, make the surface smooth. Fill and repair the defects and holes.
Surface treatment and coloring: according to the design of the surface treatment, such as polishing to increase the gloss. Choose weather-resistant pigments, apply primer to enhance the adhesion of pigments, then paint the black and white hair color and other details of the panda, and finally spray top coat to protect the color and enhance the durability.
