“The Sun Wukong Qi Tian Da Sheng Bronze Pendant is inspired by the classic Chinese mythological figure of the Monkey King and his title “Qi Tian Da Sheng”. The classic shape of the Monkey King wearing a phoenix-winged purple gold crown, golden armor, lotus-root silk walking shoes, and holding a golden hoop stick is captured in a small pendant with exquisite craftsmanship. The bronze material gives it a simple and heavy texture, which is suitable for daily wear to add personality and elegance, but also because it carries the cultural symbolism of bravery, resistance to authority, etc., it has become a favorite collection of traditional culture enthusiasts, and it is a product of the combination of classical mythological culture and modern jewelry technology.

Description

Design drawing: The designer deeply studies the image of Sun Wukong “The Great Sage of Qi Tian” in the original “Journey to the West” and related movie, TV and painting works, and extracts the iconic elements for creative conception. Through hand-drawing or computer graphics software, the design of the pendant is accurately depicted to determine the modeling posture (e.g. majestic standing posture, cloud-driving dynamics, etc.), size, as well as the feather texture of the phoenix-winged purple gold crown, the details of the scales of the golden armor, etc., to ensure that the image is vivid and conforms to the public’s imagination of the Great Sage of the Heavenly Creatures.
Making wax molds: Lost wax casting is often used. First, paraffin wax is heated and melted into liquid form, then injected into a mold made according to the design, and then taken out after it has cooled down and solidified, resulting in a wax mold that roughly matches the design. After that, the craftsmen carve the wax model by hand, such as the detailed carving of the Monkey King’s facial expression (gleaming eyes, upturned corners of the mouth, etc.), the sense of flow of hair, and the folds of the costume, etc., to make the image more vivid and lifelike.
Preparation for casting: The individual wax molds are assembled into a wax tree (multiple wax molds are connected to a casting system), and then multiple layers of refractory slurry (e.g., quartz sand, etc.) are repeatedly applied to the surface of the wax tree, and each layer is dried and hardened to form a shell with a certain strength and thickness. Then the shell is heated at high temperature, so that the wax mold melts and flows out, so as to get the hollow casting, in preparation for casting bronze.
Bronze casting: the bronze raw materials (generally copper and tin and other metal alloys) into the furnace heated to 1000 ℃ or so, so that it is completely melted into a liquid state. When the bronze liquid reaches the right fluidity, it is carefully poured into the mold, making sure that the liquid fills every detail of the mold. Allow the liquid bronze to cool and solidify within the mold to form the blank for the pendant.
Post-processing: Crack the shell, remove the pendant blank and use cutting tools to remove excess parts such as sprues and risers. Through the sanding and polishing process, the surface roughness is first removed with coarse sandpaper, and then gradually sanded with fine sandpaper to make the pendant surface smooth and emphasize the contours and details of the shape. Surface treatment can also be carried out according to the design requirements, such as chemical agents to create a rustic texture; or gold-plated, rhodium-plated and other treatments to increase the luster and uniqueness of the pendant.
