Description

Design Drawing: The designers make creative ideas according to the characteristics of the Monkey King’s image and draw detailed design drawings to determine the overall shape, size and details of the pendant, such as the Monkey King’s facial expression, body movements, clothing textures, etc., to ensure that the design is in line with the general public’s perception of the Monkey King, but also has a unique artistic style.
Making the wax mold: In the lost wax casting method, paraffin wax is heated to liquid state and injected into a mold made according to the design drawings, and then taken out after it cools down and solidifies, resulting in a wax mold that is basically the same as the design. After that, the craftsmen will make fine hand carving on the wax model to further improve the details of the Monkey King’s facial features, hair direction, clothing folds, etc., so as to make the image more vivid and lifelike.
Preparation for casting: The wax molds are assembled into a wax tree (i.e. several wax molds are connected to a casting system), and then multiple layers of fire-resistant slurry (e.g. quartz sand, etc.) are repeatedly applied to the surface of the wax tree, and each layer is dried and hardened to form a shell with a certain strength and thickness. Then the shell is heated at a high temperature so that the wax mold melts and flows out, thus obtaining the hollow casting.
Brass casting: The raw brass is heated in a furnace to approx. 1000°C so that it is completely melted into liquid form and reaches the right fluidity, then it is carefully poured into the mold, making sure that the brass liquid fills every corner of the mold. After the liquid brass has cooled and solidified in the mold, the Monkey King Pendant can be obtained as a blank.
Post-processing: Crack the shell, take out the pendant blank, and use cutting tools to remove excess parts such as sprues and risers. Through the sanding and polishing process, the surface roughness is first removed with coarse sandpaper, and then gradually sanded with fine sandpaper to make the surface of the pendant smooth and emphasize the contours and details of the shape. In addition, surface treatment can also be carried out according to the design requirements, such as the old treatment through chemicals to create a vintage atmosphere; or gold-plated, rhodium-plated and other treatments to increase the luster and uniqueness of the pendant.
